The Judo Of Christmas
A statement like "For God So Loved the world that He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him should have everlasting life" (John.3:16) is a very confronting statement. But despite the fact that most do not wish to acknowledge it, that is precisely what we are celebrating at Christmas time.

In fact, it gets, even more, confronting than that. Because what we are really celebrating is that a child was born to die on a cross for us.
Now I know that a lot of people say they don't believe in God, yet so many of them who say that still celebrate the season. Some are just perhaps confused or haven't even thought about it but I think there is a sense in which many people get something out of this confrontation even though they say they don't.
It's very Judo when you think about it. In Judo, we go into competition to be confronted and we expect weakness to overcome strength. Just like the idea of a weak baby overcoming the power of death.
Happy confronting and happy Christmas to all!
